This gorgeous Orange and Turquoise Bubble Wrap was hand-dyed using Japanese shibori nui shibori methods. The "bubble" texture varies depending on what object was used which makes a great visual and textural element to the art-to-wear piece. I used many different types of objects to create the texture in the cloth- marbles, bicycle parts...so the texture varies in size throughout the piece. Each object is bound individually, so I find I am "bubbling" in my studio a whole lot!
To create the colored design on the cloth I sewed the fabric while it was white using specific "ori nui shibori" stitches. Then, I dyed two pieces of silk organza separately and sewed them together using three dimensional stitches. The blues range from a bright, vivid turquoise to a darker blue with some small areas of white left from the shibori design. Some thread are black, other turquoise. Many of the threads were left uncut to add more texture and interest to the piece.
The combination of the shibori, three dimensional texture from thread and "bubbles" makes this art-to-wear piece totally unique!
This Bubble Wrap can be worn tied in front, in the back, or side using the corners of the piece itself or use the hand-dyed ribbon that comes with the piece. Can also be worn around the waist as a sexy apron. Rolled hems were sewn with black polyester thread for durability.
All amtextiles come wrapped securely in a gift box with hand-dyed ribbon. amtextiles that do not come with ribbons attached will find a complimentary hand-dyed ribbon inside their package to aid in the wearing of the wrap!
